Kanchan Chatterjee

Kanchan Chatterjee
the shaven headed pilgrim
digs up the dry river bed, holding
the water in his palm,
chants those sacred chants –
offers it
to the gods
while the priest and those stray birds
wait for their fill
patiently. . .
Kanchan Chatterjee works for the Finance Ministry of the Indian government. His primary genre is poetry, and he “scribbles” whenever he gets the chance or has the inclination. In 2012, Chatterjee’s poetry was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
